National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)

The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) is a nationally administered assessment given to 4th, 8th, and 12th graders in a range of subject areas including Reading, Math, Science, Writing, US History, and Civics. The Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS), which assesses math and science and administered internationally, is also given at a smaller number of schools and less frequently. Not all schools in the Eugene School District 4J are administered the NAEP or TIMSS, rather a sample of schools are selected by the Oregon Department of Education based on sampling techniques, in order to match the State's demographics.

Total test administration time for students is approximately 90 minutes for the NAEP and 140 minutes for the TIMSS. For participating schools, parents will be notified prior to administration.  There were no 4J schools selected for NAEP or TIMSS administration for the 2011/12 school year.
