At the elementary school level, students in need of additional reading and/or math support are referred to BEST by a teacher, counselor or principal, and BEST site coordinators then send out invitations to the families of these students with instructions about how to enroll their child. At the middle school level, BEST is open to any student at that school who wishes to attend. For more information about BEST and whether or not your child is eligible to participate, contact your school or BEST site coordinators.

BEST for Success is a proud recipient of a 5-year, 21st Century CCLC grant. Thanks to this grant, the BEST for Success Program is free to all participating students at our seven program sites.

We currently serve students in six 4J schools:

BEST has three key components: homework, meal time, and enrichment. Each site’s rotation and timing is different to best meet the needs of the students they serve. Transportation home is provided based on need. BEST is an equal opportunity provider.

New 21st Century CCLC 5-year grant brings program changes

BEST for Success collaborated with over 20 federal and community partners to plan evidence-based, hands-on activities tied to the Oregon State Standards, while striving to increase knowledge and understanding of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) and to provide physical fitness, cultural exploration, mentorship, financial literacy, community service, and social emotional learning.

Students are provided homework support and math and reading intervention to help meet learning targets. Enrichment classes are offered in partnership with the City of Eugene, Eugene Family YMCA, School Garden Project of Lane County, Eugene Springfield Youth Orchestra, Eugene Symphony Link Up, Little Hands Can, PAAWS, Junior Achievement of Western Oregon, Emerald Kidsports, Lane Arts Council, and Looking Glass Community Services. Additionally, guest speakers and other offerings further contribute to a robust variety of class choices. Middle School Enrichment classes also include partnership offerings from NEHS Robotics and GANAS. Class topics include: Financial Literacy, Lego/Vex Robotics, Coders in Residence, Strings and Symphony Link Up Recorder lessons, Community Service Projects/Planning, Physical Literacy, Cultural Exploration, STEM in the Garden, art, dance and much more!
