Apply Now to Serve on Budget Committee
The district is seeking candidates to fill one open seat on 4J's budget committee. Applications are now being accepted; the deadline to apply is Monday, Oct. 6. Apply now!
The school board will review the candidates after the application period closes and select six finalists next month to move forward in the selection process. The finalists will be invited to speak at the board’s meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 5, and the board will vote on and announce its appointment later that evening.
Eligible residents interested in serving on the budget committee can apply by completing and submitting:
- the online application form available at this link
- the printed application form available at the 4J district office, 200 N. Monroe Ave.
ELIGIBILITY: Applicants must reside within the school district’s boundaries and must be registered to vote. Applicants can’t be district employees, but they don’t need to have students enrolled in 4J schools.
Two seats are open as their three-year terms have expired. The board will fill the other open seat currently on the committee by appointing a representative of 4J’s equity committee, as required under state law. Budget committee members appointed to the seats will serve three-year terms, or until June 30, 2028.
The budget committee reviews annual budget proposals to ensure that the district is planning to spend money in furtherance of district goals. It examines the proposed budget presented each spring, listens to community comments, and then approves the budget and property tax rates and forwards them to the school board for adoption.
The budget committee has 14 members: the seven school board members and an equal number of citizen volunteers appointed by the board. Budget committee members are volunteers and are not paid for their service.
