Bloodborne Pathogens: Hepatitis B Vaccination

The Hepatitis B series consists of 3 shots over a 6-month period. The shots are given in the upper arm, and have a very low incidence of side effects. In most cases, a person will become immune to Hepatitis B after 3 shots.

Hepatitis B shots are now required for all school-age children.

For more information about the vaccine, check this website: www.liverfoundation.org

Eugene School District offers free hepatitis B shots to employees if it is determined that they are likely to incur occupational exposure to blood or other body fluids.

See Employee Exposure for a list of at-risk occupations and the Exposure Control Plan pages 7-9 for more details. Call your school nurse or the South Eugene High School Clinic (541-687-3209) if you believe you may be eligible for these shots.

Your insurance company may also pay for these shots.
