Good morning friends and families of South,
It is with a great sense of relief that I can announce that authorities have identified and contacted two South Eugene High School students believed to be responsible for the four automated threats targeting our high school.
I am immensely grateful to the Eugene Police Department, local FBI office and 4J technology staff, who have worked tirelessly over the past month to trace, investigate and identify those responsible for the disruptions.
While the criminal investigation is ongoing, I can share that authorities have established a link between the automated threats and two local juveniles. It’s likely that the calls were both planned and made from the Eugene area, although they were masked to appear as if they were placed from other parts of the country.
We know that the threats have been very stressful for our students, staff and families. These incidents also have highlighted areas where our system and response can be improved. Moving forward, we are working to construct stronger response systems, and have heard and will incorporate your feedback into those processes.
Finally, to the students and staff at South Eugene High School, thank you for your resilience. While these incidents were false hoaxes and thankfully there was no actual threat, we recognize that these stressful situations impact the mental health of all involved. It is sad that we live in an age where we must navigate situations like these.
