ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
Buena Vista Principal: Mark Hinthron
Mr. Hinthron brings 21 years of experience in education, including 12 years as the assistant principal at McMinnville High School and seven years as the principal of Newby Elementary School, where he implemented a two-way dual language immersion program that earned the school recognition as a Distinguished School by the Oregon Department of Education. He holds both a bachelor’s degree in communication and Spanish and an ESL endorsement. He is fluent in Spanish. Known for his dedication to fostering bilingualism, biliteracy, and igniting a passion for learning, Mr. Hinthron also enjoys immersing himself in Mexican culture and traditions during his frequent trips to Oaxaca, Mexico. His expertise, cultural connections and leadership skills will greatly benefit the Buena Vista community.
Edgewood Principal: George Gillett
Mr. Gillett is returning to Eugene and 4J from Phoenix, Arizona, where he has served as an elementary school principal for the past five years. Before moving south, he served as assistant principal at Spencer Butte Middle from 2016–19. Additionally, he worked as a teacher and administrative intern at Guy Lee Elementary, next door in Springfield. Mr. Gillett believes in empowering every staff member to contribute to student success, using data-driven strategies for targeted interventions that ensure equitable opportunities for all students. He prioritizes transparency and empathy to ensure that all voices are heard and valued in the decision-making process. His focus on regular engagement with parents and staff to foster meaningful dialogue and a shared sense of ownership in the school's vision will serve the Edgewood community well.
Holt Assistant Principal: Rebecca Boyd
Ms. Boyd, with 24 years of experience in teaching and early childhood education, including her current role as an instructional coach at Gilham Elementary and, before that, as 4J staff development specialist, has a proven track record of fostering inclusive and effective learning environments. Not only has she taught kindergarten at Spring Creek and River Road/El Camino del Río (and first and second grades in North Carolina), she has led professional development, supported school goals, and created innovative systems to enhance academic outcomes. Passionate about cultural competence and diversity, Ms. Boyd has served as an equity and inclusion facilitator. Her dedication and expertise will make a significant positive impact on the Holt community in this new role.
Howard Assistant Principal: Tamara Hughes
Though new to 4J, Ms. Hughes brings 26 years of diverse educational experience, including her most recent role as a special education teacher and leadership team member at an elementary school in Colorado. She brings a wealth of knowledge in special education and a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive school culture. Throughout her career, Ms. Hughes has consistently demonstrated her ability to ignite a passion for learning in students and teachers alike. She looks forward to establishing strong collaborative relationships with Howard staff to foster an environment of teamwork and shared success. Her ability to inspire and support both students and staff in this newly created position will make a significant impact on the Howard community.
Spring Creek Principal: Geoff Wetherell
Mr. Wetherell is a seasoned administrator with more than 15 years of experience, including 13 years as an elementary principal. He has worked at schools in the Beaverton, Coos Bay, Coquille, and Salem-Keizer school districts, with several years serving as a director of special education. His most recent role was principal at Englewood Elementary School in Salem. His leadership has consistently led to improved academic outcomes and enhanced student well-being. He is excited to join the Spring Creek Elementary community and looks forward to working closely with families, students, and staff to build strong relationships and foster a school culture where every student can thrive.
Twin Oaks Principal: Stephanie Randall
Ms. Randall has been the principal at Buena Vista Spanish Immersion Elementary since 2021. Prior to BV, she served as assistant principal at Gilham and Willagillespie elementary schools. She is a fluent Spanish speaker and an experienced elementary administrator and teacher. She embraces her role as a leader of learning, is skilled at using data to improve classroom instruction, understands schools in the context of their communities, and is both reflective and intentional with her practice. Ms. Randall has both the skills and the heart to lead the next chapter at Twin Oaks.
Willagillespie Assistant Principal: K.C. Bodily
Mr. Bodily is a seasoned administrator with extensive experience as an elementary principal and middle school assistant principal. He served as principal at Spring Creek Elementary for the past two years and was previously an elementary and middle school principal in Fairbanks, Alaska, for eight years. Mr. Bodily also worked in two remote Alaskan Native villages, first as a teacher and then as a K–12 principal. He has centered his education career around understanding the cultures of the students and families he serves. Mr. Bodily is dedicated to creating a high-quality, safe and positive learning environment where students are excited about and engaged in their education. He looks forward to contributing to the Willagillespie team in the newly created AP position.
Cal Young Principal: Brian Young
Mr. Young is an experienced administrator from the Junction City School District who has served in various leadership positions for the past 14 years, including serving as principal at Oaklea Middle School and most recently at Junction City High School. Prior to his service as an administrator, he was a social studies teacher at Roseburg High School for more than a decade. Known for his dedication to student success, family engagement, and creating inclusive environments, Brian has implemented numerous programs to boost student achievement. He is looking forward to joining a larger school district and serving the community of Cal Young Middle School!
Cal Young Assistant Principal: Brandon Parks
Mr. Parks will be joining Cal Young, replacing Matt Myers who is headed back to Kennedy Middle School, where he was a math teacher, to teach physical education. Mr. Parks has decades of middle school experience in the Springfield School District, working for the past five years as an instructional coach at Thurston Middle School. Before that, he taught math at Briggs and Hamlin middle schools for 15 years and served as a middle school athletic director at Briggs. Brandon’s expert knowledge of instructional best practices, strong leadership skills, ability to build collaborative relationships, and a deep understanding of behavior management strategies make him a great addition to Cal Young’s administrative team.
Kennedy Principal: Travis Sheaffer
For the past four years, Mr. Sheaffer has served as North Eugene High’s assistant principal. Before shifting gears to work as an administrator, Mr. Sheaffer was a K–12 music teacher with a focus on middle school. For four years prior to being AP at North Eugene, he was director of the Kelly Middle School and North Eugene band programs. Mr. Sheaffer is looking forward to returning to the middle school level. He is creative and innovative, and takes an optimistic approach to the challenges facing a school community. His strong interpersonal and communication skills, passion for instructional improvement, and the desire to lead teachers and students to positive outcomes will benefit the Kennedy community.
Roosevelt Interim Principal: Mike Yocum
Mr. Yocum, who has served as assistant principal at Roosevelt since 2013, brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to the school’s community. Before joining 4J and RMS, Mr. Yocum taught English in the Dominican Republic while serving in the Peace Corps, taught Spanish in Colorado, and worked as a behavioral consultant for the Fern Ridge School District. His earlier career included roles as a special education instructional assistant and teacher in 4J middle schools. Mr. Yocum's leadership as assistant principal has been marked by his ability to connect with students, staff and families. His transition to interim principal will continue to support and uplift the Roosevelt community.
Roosevelt Assistant Principal: Kelsea Wilson
Ms. Wilson brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students. She has served as an elementary and middle school special education teacher for the past decade, the last eight in 4J. Her expertise in individualized instruction, behavior management, and collaboration, along with her experience in leading professional development and developing behavior and safety plans, makes her a valuable addition to the Roosevelt team for this coming school year.
Sheldon Assistant Principal/Athletic Director: Chris Mitchell
Mr. Mitchell is returning to his roots at the high school level, taking over the AP/AD position from Ricky Rodriguez, who accepted an athletic director position at Bend Senior High School. He began his education career as a biology teacher for ten years and served as assistant principal at Springfield High School. For the past 12 years, he has been a middle school principal in 4J, with six years each at Roosevelt and Cal Young. He immensely enjoyed his middle school experience, but he decided it was time to take on a new opportunity and return to the high school level. His commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive environment where every student can thrive, develop their skills, and build lasting memories will be a great addition to Sheldon.
North Eugene Assistant Principal: Adrienne Pierce
For the past two years, Ms. Pierce has worked at the district level as a curriculum administrator with a focus on secondary curriculum and student supports. Previously, she served as assistant principal at Guy Lee Dual Immersion Elementary in Springfield. She started her education career as a French teacher at Roosevelt Middle, Sheldon High, and Charlemagne French Immersion Elementary. Ms. Pierce aims to foster an educational environment where student, staff and family voice is valued and encouraged. Her desire to model warm commanding leadership, team building and clear communication will be a great addition to North Eugene.
Chief of Staff: Carmen Urbina
Ms. Urbina has over three decades of experience, including six years as deputy director at the Oregon Department of Education. During her tenure at ODE, she led transformative initiatives, such as Every Student Belongs and the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Strategic Plan. Her extensive background in program administration, community engagement, intergovernmental affairs, and education system design will be invaluable to the district. Ms. Urbina has deep ties to Eugene and 4J, where she spent 26 years serving in various leadership roles, including as the district's equity, diversity, as well as inclusion manager and executive director of Centro Latino Americano. Ms. Urbina remains closely connected to the community and 4J. Both her children attended 4J schools. One is now a special education educational assistant married to a 4J teacher! Her exemplary leadership, extensive experience and deep-rooted community connections make her the ideal person to serve as 4J’s chief of staff.
Assistant Superintendent of Equity, Inclusion and Belonging: Juan Carlos Cuadros
With 25 years of experience in public education, Juan Carlos is a dedicated educational equity leader whose lived experiences and professional background make him a great leader for our district and our students. He brings a thoughtful vision and steady leadership that will help ensure equitable outcomes for all 4J students.
For the last four years, he has worked at Bend-La Pine School District, starting as curriculum director in 2020 and advancing to executive director of middle school programs in 2021, where he made equity and inclusion central to the district's six middle schools. Before that, Juan spent 13 years with 4J, serving as principal at Kelly Middle School (2016–20) and Buena Vista Spanish Immersion Elementary School (2009–16), after starting his 4J career in 2007 as assistant principal at Roosevelt Middle School. He began his educational career as a Spanish teacher at Lane Community College before moving to Springfield as a multicultural liaison and ELL coordinator. Juan holds two master’s degrees—in Education and Spanish—and a bachelor’s degree in Spanish, all from the University of Oregon. His commitment to equity, social-emotional support, and rigorous academics, along with his proven experience as an educational leader, makes us pleased to welcome him back to 4J in this important position.
Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services: Brooke Wagner
Ms. Wagner brings decades of experience as an education leader with a broad and deep background working across all school levels, and as a classified, licensed, and administrative staff member. She previously served our district in this role during the 2021–22 school year, and has also served as human resources director, assistant superintendent of instruction, director of elementary education and preK–8 education. She has been a middle and elementary school principal in Eugene and Springfield, and worked in three of the four school regions in our district. Ms. Wagner was named Oregon’s Assistant Principal of the Year in 2006 and Springfield Public Schools Administrator of the Year in 2015. She prioritizes building and maintaining relationships and creating a foundation of trust, transparency and approachability. Her enthusiasm, experience, leadership, and essential skills and qualities will continue to be invaluable to the district in the administrative services realm.
Communications Director: Kelly McIver
With over 30 years of experience in strategic communications and community engagement, Kelly is a seasoned professional with deep roots in our community. A Sheldon High School alum, Kelly served as 4J’s communications coordinator from 1996 to 2008. Since 2021, Kelly has been communications manager for the city of Eugene’s Unhoused Response, developing strategies to address homelessness and fostering key relationships across various sectors. Previously, he worked as director of strategic engagement and communication for the University of Oregon’s Safety and Risk Services; public information officer at the University of Oregon Police Department; and community relations director at South Lane School District. Kelly began his career as a reporter for The Register-Guard after earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism at the University of Oregon. A strong advocate for transparency and accountability, Kelly excels in crisis communications, media relations, and engagement with diverse audiences. His deep connections to 4J and the Eugene community, along with the relationships he has maintained with major stakeholders, make him an ideal fit to lead our communications department.
Human Resources Director: Catherine Marrone
Ms. Marrone brings over 20 years of diverse experience in educational administration, with a strong background in human resources, special education, and school psychology. She has worked the last five years as the executive human resource officer at Linn Benton Lincoln Educational Service District, where she managed HR operations for 12 districts, led initiatives to promote equity and diversity in recruitment, and guided administrators in best practices for hiring and evaluation. She began her as a school psychologist, including time serving 4J, and she has since held various leadership roles, including as a special education and evaluation services program administrator, elementary principal, and special education director. A long-time Eugene resident and the mother of a 4J graduate, she eager to return to the district with aims to support and empower educators at every stage of their careers.
Federal Programs Administrator: Nadira Rizkallah
Ms. Rizkallah has more than 20 years of experience as an educator and administrator. She began her second tenure with 4J last year as principal at Edgewood Elementary School. Prior to that, she served as the human resources and equity director for South Lane School District in Cottage Grove for two years, having been promoted after serving as principal at Laurel Elementary and Oaklea Middle schools in Junction City for seven years. Earlier in her career, she served as co-administrator of 4J’s River Road/El Camino del Río and Buena Vista Spanish Immersion elementary schools, and taught second, third and fifth grades. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama, Birmingham, double majoring in early childhood and elementary education, and earned her administrative licensure from the University of Oregon. Her leadership, expertise in planning and collaboration, and strong work ethic make her an outstanding choice as federal programs administrator.
Secondary Curriculum Administrator: Courtney Leonard
Ms. Leonard has been principal at Roosevelt Middle School since 2020 and has extensive experience working in 4J. She began her educational career as a teacher in the IHS program at South Eugene High School in 1999. She moved into school leadership in 2006, first as IHS head teacher, then to North Eugene High School as the IB coordinator and assistant principal / small school principal in 2012. She moved to the Portland area for a couple of years to serve as assistant principal at Hillsboro High School and returned to Eugene in 2018 to be principal of Charlemagne French Immersion Elementary and then Roosevelt. Ms. Leonard’s focus on academic rigor and excellence, belief in and support of every student, and commitment to educational equity are key qualities that will serve students, families and staff well in her new role.
HR Administrator (classified staff): Blanca Flores
Ms. Flores will be the new human resources administrator supporting classified staff. With over a decade of experience in human resources, she has a strong background in managing HR functions, including recruitment, labor relations and employee engagement. Ms. Flores has worked at Head Start of Lane County since 2014, starting as enrollment coordinator and then progressing to HR specialist. In 2022, she was promoted to HR manager, where she oversaw operations for more than 350 employees. Ms. Flores is passionate about diversity and committed to fostering a positive work environment.
General Counsel: Christine Nesbit
Ms. Nesbit is returning to 4J as our district’s chief legal officer. Since 2022, she has been general counsel for school legal services with the Willamette Education Service District, serving multiple school districts. For the previous 14 years, Christine filled several key roles in our district. She spent many years as our associate director of human resources, responsible for labor and employee relations, including serving as the district's lead negotiator. Her role expanded to providing a full range of in-house legal services, and she was named the district's general counsel in 2016. Before joining 4J in 2008, Christine worked in private practice, including 12 years with Harrang Long P.C. here in Eugene. With her return as general counsel by November 1, our district will again benefit from her intellect, integrity, and dedication.

Director de Buena Vista: Mark Hinthron

Subdirector de Willagillespie: K.C. Corporal
El Sr. Bodily es un administrador experimentado con amplia experiencia como director de primaria y subdirector de secundaria. Se desempeñó como director en la Primaria Spring Creek durante los últimos dos años y anteriormente fue director de primaria y secundaria en Fairbanks, Alaska, durante ocho años. Anteriormente, se desempeñó como subdirectora en la Primaria Guy Lee de doble inmersión en Springfield. Comenzó su carrera educativa como maestra de francés en la Secundaria Roosevelt, la Preparatoria Sheldon y la Primaria de inmersión en francés Charlemagne. La Sra. Pierce tiene como objetivo fomentar un entorno educativo donde se valore y fomente la voz de los estudiantes, el personal y las familias. Su deseo de modelar un liderazgo cálido e imponente, formación de equipos y comunicación clara será una gran incorporación para la North Eugene.
ADMINISTRACIÓN DEL DISTRITO
Jefe de gabinete: Carmen Urbina
La Sra. Urbina tiene más de tres décadas de experiencia, incluyendo seis años como subdirectora del Departamento de Educación de Oregón. Durante su mandato en ODE, lideró iniciativas transformadoras, como Every Student Belongs y el Plan Estratégico de Equidad, Diversidad e Inclusión. Su amplia experiencia en administración de programas, participación comunitaria, asuntos intergubernamentales y diseño de sistemas educativos será invaluable para el distrito. La Sra. Urbina tiene vínculos profundos con Eugene y el 4J, donde pasó 26 años desempeñando varios roles de liderazgo, incluso como gerente de equidad y diversidad del distrito, así como gerente de inclusión y directora ejecutiva del Centro Latino Americano. La Sra. Urbina permanece estrechamente relacionada con la comunidad y el 4J. Sus dos hijos asistieron a escuelas 4J. ¡Ahora uno es asistente educativo de educación especial casado con un maestro del 4J! Su liderazgo ejemplar, amplia experiencia y conexiones comunitarias profundamente arraigadas la convierten en la persona ideal para desempeñarse como jefa de gabinete del 4J.
Superintendente Adjunta de Servicios Administrativos: Brooke Wagner
La Sra. Wagner aporta décadas de experiencia como líder educativa con una amplia y profunda experiencia trabajando en todos los niveles escolares y como miembro del personal administrativo, clasificado y con licencia. Anteriormente desempeñó este cargo en nuestro distrito durante el año escolar 2021-22 y también se desempeñó como directora de recursos humanos, superintendente adjunta de instrucción, directora de educación primaria y educación preK-8. Ha sido directora de secundarias y primarias en Eugene y Springfield, y ha trabajado en tres de las cuatro regiones escolares de nuestro distrito. La Sra. Wagner fue nombrada Subdirectora del Año de Oregón en el 2006 y Administradora del Año de las Escuelas Públicas de Springfield en el 2015. Ella prioriza la construcción y el mantenimiento de relaciones y la creación de una base de confianza, transparencia y accesibilidad. Su entusiasmo, experiencia, habilidades de liderazgo y cualidades esenciales seguirán siendo invaluables para el distrito en el ámbito de los servicios administrativos.
Directora interina de Comunicaciones: Hillary Johnson
La Sra. Johnson se unió al 4J como especialista en comunicaciones en el 2017 y fue ascendida a coordinadora de comunicaciones dos años después. Tiene experiencia en todos los aspectos de las comunicaciones escolares y ha colaborado con el personal del 4J en muchos proyectos y en muchas capacidades. Como directora de comunicaciones interina, la Sra. Johnson trabajará estrechamente con el equipo de liderazgo del 4J para abordar algunas de nuestras necesidades de comunicación más urgentes y cerrar la brecha hasta que se contrate a un nuevo director.
Administradora de Currículo Secundario: Courtney Leonard
La Sra. Leonard ha sido directora de la Secundaria Roosevelt desde el 2020 y tiene una amplia experiencia trabajando en el 4J. Comenzó su carrera educativa como maestra en el programa IHS en la Preparatoria South Eugene en 1999. Pasó al liderazgo escolar en el 2006, primero como directora de IHS y luego en la Preparatoria North Eugene como coordinadora del IB y subdirectora de una escuela pequeña. directora en el 2012. Se mudó al área de Portland por un par de años para desempeñarse como subdirectora de la Preparatoria Hillsboro y regresó a Eugene en el 2018 para ser directora de la Primaria de inmersión en francés Charlemagne y luego de la Secundaria Roosevelt. El enfoque de la Sra. Leonard en el rigor y la excelencia académica, la confianza y el apoyo de cada estudiante y el compromiso con la equidad educativa son cualidades clave que serán de gran utilidad para los estudiantes, las familias y el personal en su nuevo rol.
Administradora de RRHH (personal clasificado): Blanca Flores
La Sra. Flores será la nueva administradora de recursos humanos que apoyará al personal clasificado. Con más de una década de experiencia en recursos humanos, tiene una sólida experiencia en la gestión de funciones de recursos humanos, incluyendo la contratación, las relaciones laborales y el compromiso de los empleados. La Sra. Flores ha trabajado en Head Start del condado de Lane desde el 2014, comenzando como coordinadora de matrícula y luego ascendiendo a especialista en recursos humanos. En el 2022, fue ascendida a gerente de recursos humanos, donde supervisó las operaciones de más de 350 empleados. A la Sra. Flores le apasiona la diversidad y está comprometida a fomentar un ambiente de trabajo positivo.
