Career Technical Education (CTE) provides students of all ages with the academic and technical skills, knowledge, and training necessary to succeed in future careers and to become lifelong learners. CTE prepares these learners for the world of work by introducing them to workplace competencies and making academic content accessible to students by providing it in a hands-on context.

Agriculture, Food and Natural Resource Systems
The Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources Systems Career Learning Area relates to the environment, food, and natural resources, including agriculture (including food systems), earth sciences, environmental sciences, fisheries management, forestry, horticulture, water resources, wildlife management, and urban environmental management. The career learning area objectives blend long term needs of people and environmental values so the land will support diverse, productive, and sustainable processes and products
Natural Resource Systems
Offered at Churchill High School
The Rachel Carson Environmental Science Program is a two-year pathway for juniors and seniors interested in natural resources, ecology and related careers. Learn to assess environmental quality and restore critical habitat in Field Studies weekly. Earn career-related certifications and work with community partners to gain job skills. Take field trips to learn from industry professionals on site.
Forestry and Forest Products
Offered at Sheldon High School
This program is designed for students interested in careers centered in outdoor activities and the natural world. Students will explore career opportunities, learn the rudiments of forestry and natural resource management through a combination of classroom, laboratory and field experience, and listen to guest speakers from various fields.
Arts, Information and Communication
The Arts, Information and Communications Career Learning Area includes a wide range of career clusters that involve the creation or transmission of information through the manipulation of a symbolic language. There is an emphasis on process and the concepts of creativity, integrity, and aesthetic awareness. A product is usually associated with that process, but it is the process that retains primary importance
Information and Communications Technology
Offered at North Eugene High School, Sheldon High School, South Eugene High School & ECCO
The information and communications technology program of study provides students with the opportunity to learn various programming languages, basic computer terminology and much more. In these programs, students will take courses similar to Computer Fundamentals, Intro To Web Design, and Game Development. The skills they develop will enable them to be ready for post-secondary education or jobs in the technology industry.
Digital Media Arts
Offered at Churchill High School, North Eugene High School, & South Eugene High School
The digital media arts program of study provides students with industry-standard design software, principles, concepts, and techniques. Emphasis is placed on hands-on and real world application of skills and techniques. Coursework is project based as students take their designs from concept all the way through to the final product.
Digital Media Arts: Creative Current
Offered at CALCI
At Creative Current you’ll be part of a team that creates and operates a digital design company—a real business—developing logos, posters, videos, and digital marketing collateral for real clients, including district-based and local non- profit organizations. After completing our one or two-year sequence, you’ll be prepared for a variety of next steps, including entry-level jobs in the digital media or graphic design industry, starting your own business or doing freelance digital design work, or next-level education, either at the community college or university level.
Journalism & Broadcasting
Offered at South Eugene High School
The journalism and broadcasting program of study teaches students how words and visuals work together to create stories and learn new ways to explore content digitally. Students will learn through hands-on experience combining journalism, desktop publishing, graphic design, photography and team collaboration to produce a unique publication.
Business and Management
The Business and Management Career Learning Area focuses on the business and entrepreneurial needs of Oregon's students as they prepare to enter and succeed in the world of business. The careers in this area span virtually every industry in the world. Studies in Business and Management focus on the commonalities among most businesses, including concepts such as personnel management, marketing, planning, finance, and resource management. This area also includes careers in the hospitality and tourism fields
Business Management
Offered at Sheldon High School
Students learn teamwork and problem-solving skills through exposure to a variety of computer-based activities. Students learn the proper business etiquette expected in today’s global marketplace and are introduced to communication skills needed in the workplace.
Culinary Arts
Offered at North Eugene High School & South Eugene High School
Students learn culinary skills and techniques, creating innovative menus and restaurant-quality dishes. Topics covered include preparing meals on both a small and large-scale; preserving nutrients throughout the food preparation process; using and maintaining commercial cooking equipment; storing food, learning about advances in food technology, sanitation and management; and discovering the many careers available in the food service industry.
Health Services
Healthcare is among the largest and fastest-growing industries in the United States. In the Health Sciences Career Area, you can prepare for a career that promotes health, wellness, and diagnosis, and treats injuries and diseases. Some careers involve working directly with people, while others involve research into diseases or collecting and formatting data and information. You can work in hospitals, medical or dental offices, laboratories, communities, medivac units, sports arenas, or cruise ships
Health Services
Offered at Churchill High School
This program prepares all students for a wide array of high-demand, health-based careers by building a solid foundation in scientific reasoning, medical language, cultural and ethical competency, and anatomical knowledge. With the help of industry partnerships, students gain the hands-on, practical skills that prepare them to enter pre-professional programs and pursue a future in health services. Successful graduates have applied their articulated credits and training towards college degrees and professional certifications at Lane Community College, Oregon Health & Science University, University of Oregon, Oregon Institute of Technology, Oregon State University, George Fox University and other programs.
Human Resources
The Human Resources Career Learning Area includes a wide range of careers that weave together work in the areas that focus on people: their needs, their growth and development, and their safety and well-being. Those who work in the fields representing human resources need a common foundation of knowledge and skills that enable them to assess the complex dilemmas facing individuals and groups in unique situations, identify and weigh options and possibilities, and act in ways that are effective and socially responsible. Careers in this area are very diverse and range—for example—from education to corrections, from law and government to fire and safety, and from child development to national security
Early Childhood Education
Offered at North Eugene High School & South Eugene High School
Child Development and Education will introduce students to the human mind, as well as physical and emotional health. This program is for students interested in a career as a psychologist, teacher, social worker or early childhood education specialist. These courses will assist you along your journey.
K12 Education: EmpowerED
Offered at CALCI
4J’s newest K12 Education Pathway, EmpowerED, is designed to help students explore careers in the field of education. In this program, students will work with and learn from educational professionals, developing skills needed to design and lead 21st century classrooms. This program will explore what it means to support diverse populations of students with techniques that create opportunities for everyone to learn and thrive. Projects in this class may include interning in 4J classrooms, hosting an educational conference, and traveling out of state to experience different learning communities. EmpowerEd is a half-day program, open to 11th and 12th graders from all 4J high schools. Students will earn English and health credits and CTE program completion in a single year. The location of this program is still being determined. Transportation to and from the program will be provided.
Industrial and Engineering Systems
The Industrial and Engineering Systems Career Learning Area relates to the technologies used to design, develop, install, operate, maintain, and upgrade physical systems. These include, but are not limited to, engineering and related design technologies, mechanical systems, manufacturing technologies, precision production, construction, electrical systems, and electronics and information technologies. People in this field use academic and technological knowledge and skills to design, build, inspect, deliver, maintain, and repair aircraft, automobiles, buildings, computer equipment, roads, bridges, and manufacturing machinery
Architecture & Construction: Future Build

Future Build students experience true authentic learning that provides opportunities for their own futures while simultaneously creating meaningful and sustainable changes for their community. Future Build students work with industry partners to co-create housing projects to tangibly and significantly transform people’s lives. Through Future Build, 4J CTE students will gain skills and knowledge that will prepare them for family wage, high demand Lane County jobs in trades that are hungry for a job-ready workforce.
Engineering Design

The mission of the Engineering Academy is to empower students from all backgrounds to explore. They are organized through unique learning experiences that foster creativity, teamwork and service. The curriculum emphasizes process over product and encourages students to try out their ideas in a collaborative, project-based format.
Engineering Technology: HumaniTech
Offered at CALCI
If you are interested in applied science or engineering, or are considering a career in a technical field, this developing program may fit your Solve problems in your community through engineering, technology, and aviation with HumaniTech, 4J’s new Humanitarian Engineering CTE program. In this project-based program, students will use engineering and manufacturing skills to create solutions for mobility, adaptive technology, and other challenges impacting our community. Students will work with local and federal agencies to secure certifications for emergency response, including drone piloting and amateur radio. HumaniTech is a half-day program, open to 11th and 12th graders from all 4J high schools. Students will earn science and math credits and CTE program completion in a single year. The program is located in South Eugene High School’s new engineering lab (which has a dual seat flight simulator). Transportation to and from the program will be provided.
Manufacturing
Offered at North Eugene High School
Students build structures and engage in project-based learning that exposes them to commercial, industrial, residential, public works and institutional technologies to help them understand manufacturing career opportunities. They learn proper safety procedures for tools and machinery and the vocabulary and terms associated with manufacturing.
