District Awarded $8 Million State Matching Grant for Upcoming Bond

Funds will be awarded if voters approve a bond measure in November 

Eugene School District 4J will be awarded $8 million in state matching grant funds if a capital bond measure is approved by voters in November 2018. The Eugene School Board is developing a potential bond measure to be placed on the election ballot.

The Oregon Schools Capital Improvement Matching Grant Program (OSCIM), created by the 2015 Oregon Legislature with Senate Bill 447, provides matching grant funds to school districts to support and expand on community support for school facility bond measures.

To qualify for OSCIM grant funding, districts must submit an application describing the types of projects the grant dollars will fund, along with a facilities assessment and a long-range facilities plan. Only districts that plan to have a bond measure on the ballot are allowed to apply.

4J submitted the required materials and has been notified that an $8 million OSCIM grant will be awarded if a bond measure is approved. This is the maximum amount any district can be awarded under the OSCIM program. The bond must pass for the district to collect the OSCIM grant funds.

If voters approve a bond measure in November, the $8 million OSCIM grant will help fund improvements such as:

• Replacing aging school buildings
• Enhancing school safety and security
• Improving seismic safety and resiliency for disaster recovery
• Making school facilities more accessible and equitable
• Repairing and improving buildings
