New space for elementary schools to open this fall
Edison Elementary School will have a new temporary home this fall.
Edison will move to a facility at the former Willard school site at 29th & Lincoln for two years, while the new Edison school building is constructed. Edison’s 94-year-old building at 22nd & Onyx is the oldest and in the poorest condition of all of the district’s school buildings.
Currently under construction, the Willard swing school will be composed of a total of 37 prefabricated and modular building segments and the renovated gym of the former Willard school. Once completed, the swing school will have 13 classrooms, office spaces, a library, kitchen, cafeteria, gymnasium and playground.
Modern Building Systems is contracted to erect the pre-fabricated building with Hyland Construction supervising the site work. After site preparations this winter, the modular construction began in mid-April and is coming together quickly.
The new Willard facility will serve as the temporary home for two elementary schools over the next few years.
Thanks to the community’s approval of the 2018 school bond measure, new school buildings are being designed and built to replace the aging Edison Elementary School and Camas Ridge Elementary School buildings. The new schools will be constructed on their current sites, and with limited space at both locations, the existing buildings will need to be cleared before construction can begin.
Both schools will need a temporary location during construction, and no other school building in the area has the capacity to temporarily house the school programs. The Willard swing school facility is being constructed to serve that need and will be repurposed for other district needs after its use as a swing school.
Edison will be located at the Willard site starting this fall and will move into the new Edison school building once construction is completed in summer 2022. Camas Ridge will then move to the Willard site from 2022 to summer 2024, while its new building is constructed.

La escuela primaria Edison tendrá un nuevo hogar temporal este otoño.
La Edison se mudará a una instalación en el sitio de la antigua escuela Willard en la 29th & Lincoln durante dos años, mientras se construye el nuevo edificio de la escuela Edison.
