We’re excited to welcome your child to the start of school through a new program called Kindergarten Smart Start. We have re-designed the first eight days of school for our youngest students to help set them up for success this year and beyond.

Providing a staggered start allows for smaller classes and time to connect with families, giving teachers the opportunity to understand your child’s unique strengths as well as their academic and social needs from the very beginning. Kindergarten Smart Start will help ensure a successful and personalized introduction to school for each student and a smoother start for all students.

• Last name A–L: Attend Sept. 6 (W), 7 (Th), 11 (M) & 13 (W)
• Last name M–Z: Attend Sept. 6 (W), 8 (F), 12 (Tu) & 13 (W)
No Kindergarten Sept. 14 & 15 (parent/teacher conversations)
Regular school schedule begins on Monday, Sept. 18

We understand that the Kindergarten Smart Start schedule may present childcare challenges to some of our families. We are sharing the new schedule now, well in advance of the start of school, to help you best plan for September, as we are not able to offer childcare on the days your child is not scheduled to attend class.

Why Kindergarten Smart Start? Oregon recently updated the assessment process for kindergartners, providing us the opportunity to review and make other changes to the start of kindergarten. District leaders consulted with early learning experts and care providers, including preschools, kindergarten teachers, elementary school administrators and education specialists to explore ways to make the introduction to school better for our youngest students. A diverse and collaborative 4J educator workgroup reviewed all the information and developed Kindergarten Smart Start to best meet our students’ unique needs and set them on the path for educational success.

• Create a smooth and cohesive transition into 4J schools for all students and families
• Build strong relationships with families and promote school engagement
• Begin the process of getting to know the whole child and how to best meet their unique needs
• Ensure equity for all students and families by launching consistent implementation of Kindergarten Smart Start at all 4J elementary schools

Introduciendo Kindergarten Smart Start

Un inicio alternado del año escolar ayuda a preparar a los niños de kinder para el éxito este año y hacia adelante

Estamos emocionados de darle la bienvenida a su hijo al inicio de la escuela a través de un nuevo programa llamado Smart Start o Comienzo listo para kindergarten. Hemos rediseñado los primeros ocho días de clases para nuestros estudiantes más pequeños para ayudarlos a tener éxito este año y más allá. Brindar un comienzo de días alternados permite clases más pequeñas y oportunidades para conectarse con las familias, lo que brinda a los maestros la oportunidad de comprender las fortalezas únicas de su hijo, así como sus necesidades académicas y sociales desde el principio. Kindergarten Smart Start ayudará a garantizar una introducción exitosa y personalizada a la escuela para cada estudiante y un comienzo más tranquilo para todos los estudiantes.

¡NUEVO! Kindergarten Smart Start (del 6 al 15 de septiembre 2023)

• Apellidos A–L: Se asiste todo el día, el miércoles 6, el jueves 7, el lunes 11 y el miércoles 13 de septiembre

• Apellidos M–Z: Se asiste todo el día, el miércoles 6, el viernes 8, el martes 12 y el miércoles 13 de septiembre. 

No hay clases de kínder el 14 y 15 de septiembre (días de conversaciones de los padres con la maestra asignada del estudiante). El horario escolar regular comienza el lunes 18 de septiembre Entendemos que el horario de Kindergarten Smart Start puede presentar dificultades de cuidado infantil para nuestras familias. Estamos compartiendo el nuevo horario ahora, mucho antes del comienzo de la escuela, para ayudarles a planificar mejor para septiembre, ya que no podemos ofrecer cuidado de niños en los días en que su hijo no está programado para asistir a clase. ¿Por qué hacer Kindergarten Smart Start? Oregon actualizó recientemente el proceso de evaluación para los niños de kindergarten, brindándonos la oportunidad de revisar y hacer otros cambios al comienzo del kindergarten. Los líderes del distrito consultaron con expertos en aprendizaje temprano y proveedores de atención, incluidos preescolares, maestros de kindergarten, administradores de escuelas primarias y especialistas en educación para explorar formas de mejorar la introducción a la escuela para nuestros estudiantes más jóvenes. Un grupo de trabajo de educadores diverso y colaborativo del 4J revisó toda la información y desarrolló Kindergarten Smart Start para satisfacer mejor las necesidades únicas de nuestros estudiantes y para encaminarlos hacia el éxito educativo.
