• Approved items on the consent agenda: The board unanimously approved an agreement with the Oregon School Employees Association, which represents 4J’s classified workers, to provide a temporary 25% pay boost for transportation employees from October 19 through the remainder of the 2021–22 school year. These employees also will be eligible to receive three $500 bonuses paid in December, April and June, for a total of $1,500. Eligible employees are bus drivers, bus aides, mechanics, trainers, dispatch support, routers, route planning coordinators, and van drivers. The agreement also must be ratified by union members before it is effective.
Items for Information (no board action is expected to be taken)
• Discussed budget committee selection process: The board will appoint three community members to fill vacancies on the budget committee this fall. The 17 applicants will be invited to a board work session on October 20 to make a personal statement to the board describing their interest in serving on the committee. Prior to that, applicants will be asked to respond to three supplemental questions in writing, or in a video or audio recording. The board will vote to select and appoint three candidates at its November 3 meeting.
Items for Future Action (board action is expected at a later meeting)
• Discussed board working agreements: The board annually reviews and approves working agreements. In addition to board policies, the agreements establish guidelines and expectations among and between the individual board members, the superintendent, and district staff. The board is considering proposed changes and will continue to discuss them at a future meeting.
